FIRST ROOF CROSSMEMBER WITH THERMOPLASTIC FIBER COMPOSITE DESIGN FOR CONVERTIBLE SOFT TOP

Fabric roofs for convertibles are highly complex assemblies when it comes to safety, look, and functionality. Designing them is therefore always challenging. The example of the new convertible from a German premium automotive manufacturer illustrates the new opportunities that high-tech thermoplastics open up. Its fully automatic fabric acoustic soft top is equipped with a roof crossmember at the front that is made from the lightweight Thermoplastic Composites Tepex® and Durethan® PA6 structural materials from Envalior. They act as substitutes for magnesium. We will present the crossmember at the Fakuma trade show.

HIGH PERFORMANCE PLASTICS FOR CONSTANT VELOCITY JOINTS (CVJ)

The Constant Velocity Joint (CVJ) boot is an essential part of the car’s driveshaft system – supplying power to the wheels and have to cope with extreme turning angles at temperatures ranging from -45 °C to 140 °C while being pounded by stones, salt, dirt, water and grease. A hole in the boot can be disastrous if grease leaks out - which is why you need tough and durable materials that assure it performs for the entire 150.000 km warranty. Envalior’s Arnitel® TPC is ideal solution for Cr-rubber replacement. Check out more benefits here.

FINDING ALTERNATIVES TO PTFE MATERIALS THAT STAND UP TO PERFORMANCE SPECIFICATIONS

The use of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is a growing concern in markets across North America, Europe and Asia Pacific. It is part of the PFAS chemical group that is starting to see regulatory restrictions against its future use. Governments are moving to mitigate the potential dangers posed by PFAS materials.  The market's highest-temperature polyamide, Stanyl® PA46 often satisfies performance requirements without requiring PTFE, making it ideal for timing systems, actuator gears, bearings applications and more
