How Envalior’s automotive expertise can support India’s Automotive Mission Plan

India’s Automotive Mission Plan (AMP) aims to substantially grow the country’s economy, while improving consumer access to transportation. It advocates numerous policies intended to help Indian automakers and their manufacturing partners bring safer, lighter and more sustainable vehicles to market. As a global leader in material solutions for next-generation vehicles and the design and engineering support component manufacturers need to quickly and cost-effectively bring new parts to market, Envalior is ready to support the Government of India and Indian automotive industry in realizing the goals of AMP 2026.

The Automotive Mission Plan (AMP) – a joint program by the Government of India and the Indian automotive industry – supports the development of policies that shape best practices for designing and manufacturing vehicles and vehicle components, including automotive electronics and lightweighting materials. It aims to increase local consumer access to affordable, high-quality cars, while elevating India’s position as a global hub for automotive exports.

Automotive vehicle manufacturing represents the single largest opportunity for economic growth in India – and is expected to create more than 65 million new jobs within a decade. The country’s total motor vehicle registrations saw a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of almost 10% from 2009 to 2019. By 2026, the Indian automotive sector is projected to generate more than 12% of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP).

To drive the automotive industry’s growth, AMP prioritizes several strategic initiatives:

  • Strengthen India’s position as a leading exporter of small cars by making vehicles more affordable and fuel-efficient.
  • Standardize vehicle inspection and certification processes to ensure cars comply with globally observed safety regulations.
  • Increase investments in connected car technology that keep passengers safer and more comfortable.
  • Enable manufacturers to lower production expenses by replacing costly metal materials with high-strength thermoplastics.
  • Enact one fully transparent carbon emissions standard that all new vehicles will be required to meet.
  • Extend the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles in India (FAME) framework beyond 2024 to bring more low or zero-emission cars to roads.

At Envalior, we’re experts in helping parts manufacturers transition from metal materials to lightweight engineering materials. We know that there’s more to the process than simply introducing high-quality materials into existing manufacturing processes. When manufacturers transition to new ways of working, comprehensive design expertise is key to developing lightweight vehicle systems without compromising performance or safety. As production teams learn new manufacturing processes, hands-on tooling optimization support is essential to lowering part defect rates.

Our teams combine best-in-class engineering materials with automotive system design and parts manufacturing expertise to enable auto-parts manufacturers to meet rapidly changing requirements. As a result, we’ve earned a global reputation for helping our customers improve vehicle safety, performance and sustainability, while reducing operating costs.

Ensuring your components enhance vehicle safety

Our teams recommend material solutions based on how each polymer responds to real-life conditions, design requirements and different manufacturing processes. We provide complete regulatory compliance documentation, including material safety data sheets, UL statements and IMDS statements to streamline your quality assurance process. This has enabled our partners to deliver high-performance connected car components that offer best-in-class heat and electrical resistance.

Helping to achieve lightweighting goals

We partner with manufacturers to assess every viable opportunity for lightweighting, and can streamline the design process through computer aided engineering (CAE) services that accurately predict part fatigue and potential failure modes. Our unidirectional (UD) tapes, which are up to 70% lighter than metal, enable reductions to the weight and thickness of automotive structural parts without compromising mechanical strength.

Improving vehicle sustainability

As a sustainability-led company, our automotive expertise includes a broad range of applications that impact fuel efficiency – from electric engine actuator gears and low-friction timing chains to high-strength bearing cages. We’ve enabled manufacturers worldwide to develop safe, reliable parts for zero-emission vehicles – including for hydrogen fuel cells that prevent ion leaching and hydrolytic aging, and electric vehicle lithium-ion batteries that demonstrate outstanding thermal stability.

At Envalior, our mission is to help our partners evolve best practices, drive economic growth and benefit people and the planet. With a global footprint spanning every major market, we provide our customers with access to reliable supply chains as demand grows. As we support the government of India and the Indian automotive industry in achieving AMP’s goals, we are at the ready with materials and expertise that will ensure India’s vehicles and vehicle components comply with critical safety standards, reduce weight wherever possible, and accelerate India’s growth in the global automotive market.

  • Overcoming barriers to EV adoption with high-performance electrolyte additives

Electric vehicle (EV)production is accelerating quickly, yet the high cost of Lithium-ion batteries has been a long-standing barrier to battery-powered EV adoption. To ensure EVs have longer driving ranges, battery packs need to support higher energy density. High nickel ternary alloys and manganese-based, lithium-rich metal oxides is a promising method for increasing the energy density and capacity of batteries. Yet, there are drawbacks to using these compounds, which elevate the risk of thermal runaway.
